Bridge on the Drina
The bridge on the Drina is a heritage of the great vizier Mehmed pasa Sokolovic (in Turkish Sokollu Mehmet Paşa, 1505. or 1506-1579). He is one of the great Osman war generals by origin from Bosnia. He was born in the village of Sokolovići near Rudo in 1505. or 1506, and was a child of Orthodox parents.
At that time there was a tradition known as Devširma, or „The contribution in blood”. Serbian children would be taken away by force to Turkey where they would be converted in Islam and taught in their military schools to become Janissaries, the elite soldiers of the Turkish Empire. So was Bajica Sokolovic taken as a child from the surroundings of Višegrad and given the name Mehmed.

An almost instinctive image comes to mind when one thinks of Mostar and that is that of its splendid Old Bridge; it thereby follows that this stone masterpiece is the monument that has given its name to the city and which symbolizes its many significances. It was built during the Ottoman period by the Turkish architect Hajrudin and commissioned by the sultan Soliman the Magnificent; it was completed in 1566 after nine years’ work. Right from the start, the bridge became part of various local legends, one of which narrates the stubbornness of Hajrudin who stopped underneath it for three days and three nights in order to demonstrate its absolute solidity.

Sutjeska National Park is the oldest and the largest national park in BiH. The size of the area is 16052 ha. It was founded in 1962, member of European park federation EUROPARC. Thanks to outstanding natural values and preservation of Sutjeska National Park, in 2001 it was inducted in II category IUCN (Protection of nature and natural goods section).

The Tara is a river in Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. It emerges from the confluence of the Opasnica and Veruša Rivers in the Komovi mountain, part of Dinaric Alps of Montenegro. The total length is 144 km, of which 104 km are in Montenegro, while the final 40 km are in Bosnia and Herzegovina; it also forms the border between the two countries in several places. The Tara flows from south to north - north-west and converges with the Piva at the Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro border between the villages of Šćepan Polje (Montenegro) and Hum (Bosnia and Herzegovina) to form the Drina river (a branch of the Danube watershed).
